Why Donate to the Desert Winds?
  • We provide a high quality community band open to players from Junior High School all the way to retirement age, enriching the lives of a diverse group of amateur musicians from across the Coachella Valley
  • The Band performs for the Community multiple times each year, at formal concerts, our Jazz Band Gala, PS Pride Parade, and a growing number of Community events
  • The Band has a strong focus on music education in the Community
    • We have awarded $58,000 in college scholarships to Coachella Valley HS grads who major in music performance, education, composition and production
    • We offer annual spring workshops at local middle and high schools where our guest composer/conductor discusses and conducts one of their compositions with the school band students
  • The Band enjoys playing NEW music and has commissioned several new works, often by LBGTQ composers.
Why Do We Need Support?
  • Our members pay annual dues, and many are regular donors as well.  Unfortunately this doesn't come close to covering our needs 
  • To rent space to rehearse every week and store large instruments, music and equipment
  • To purchase and maintain large instruments such as chimes and xylophones, and sound equipment 
  • To stage concerts.  Each concert costs thousands of dollars to produce
  • To continue our scholarship and workshop activities and to cover dues for our members who are unable to afford them
